Spring is here and the wild flowers are gracing us with their show stopping presence. While my garden is full of bursting colors and life the sky seems to be full of unpredictable, sporadic clouds and isolated rain storms not reported on weather channels or apps.
In this week’s post you’ll learn about Cloud Seeding, my garden shares and paid subscribers get my Potato and Leek Soup recipe and my Herbal Remedy for treating Pink Eye at home.
Cloud Seeding
Cloud seeding is a weather modification technique designed to enhance precipitation by introducing substances into clouds to stimulate rain or snowfall. The process involves dispersing cloud seeding agents, such as silver iodide into the atmosphere from aircraft or ground-based generators. These substances serve as nuclei around which water droplets can form, potentially leading to the formation of larger raindrops or snowflakes. Cloud seeding is typically used in regions experiencing water scarcity or drought conditions, as well as reducing the risk of wildfires by inducing rainfall. While cloud seeding has been practiced for several decades, its effectiveness remains a subject of debate including concerns about potential environmental and health impacts, as well as ethical considerations, which continue to be addressed in ongoing research and regulatory efforts surrounding cloud seeding practices.
Cloud Seeding the Inland Empire for the next 4 years!
The Santa Ana River Watershed Project Authority (SAWPA) has been approved to start cloud seeding Southern California from November 15, 2023, continuing on for the next four years! This should be a “Ah Ha!” moment putting the pieces together as to why in the world California was under such a weather disaster earlier in the year. That’s right! Cloud Seeding. For the next four years we are subject to the manipulation of weather and should be prepared for unpredictable heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, and more.
I have done some research as to the health risk cloud seeding may pose. So far, I haven’t found much to be concerned about related to our health or soil health for that matter. I will continue to follow and research the most up to date information and adjust my practices as needed based on the information released. I suggest you do the same.
Every Cloud has a Silver Lining
RAIN! Living in the high desert means hot, dry, and windy. With climate change and weather manipulation my desert garden is thriving and I will enjoy and support it just as long as the universe allows.
Gardening Shares
I get a lot of questions on social media asking me about gardening ware, tools, products, etc. As we are just getting into spring some of the items below are my annual must haves. I sometimes use affiliate links in my content. This won't cost you anything but it helps me to offset the costs of keeping my services and subscriptions affordable. I appreciate your support!
Gardening Shoes: These BOGS rain boots are everything. My last pair were still in decent shape and I considered just putting in some insoles but these were on sale and I just couldn’t say no to happy feet! These boots are obviously waterproof, slip on, super comfy, and allow for the necessary flexibility we need while gardening. I have them in green and they are my favorite.
Compost Bin: I absolutely love this counter top or below the sink compost bin. We are a plant based family which means we have a lot of compostable items. I have tried several other counter top compost bins and they were just too small. This 2.4 gallon bin is perfect for our family and I highly recommend it.
Soil Test: Test your soil! I’ve tested my soil every year since we started gardening and because of it my garden has been thriving and abundant year after year. This is my favorite soil test for several reasons. The ease of the product and send out is by far the number one reason I love this soil testing kit. Second best reason is the results are accessible on your computer or phone and they keep all your test for past and future references along with the ability to follow trends. If you haven’t already, I recommend you test your soil and right now is the perfect time to do it.
Gardening Belt: I did it! I got this gardening belt and I don’t even know how I managed without it. I don’t even like to walk the property without putting it on. I keep my pruners, gardening knife, tree tape, and a couple baggies in here at all times. I only use the harvest bag for harvest moments and it also comes in handy. If you’re looking for a gardening belt, this is one worth trying.
Let’s talk Potato and Farm Fresh Leek Soup
With the unexpected clouds and rain we had over the weekend Potato and Leek Soup was screaming my name! This is such a simple, throw together and enjoy meal the whole family loves. I used leeks, cilantro, and crushed red peppers from my garden which made this taste even better but if you don’t have your own home grown ingredients I always recommend buying organic.
Just a reminder that I cook from the soul. I listen to my intuition and the connection I have to the food and the plants that I work with when preparing my meals. That means I rarely use measurements and I encourage you to trust your intuition and learn your flavor profile just same . Keep your own health in consideration when preparing your meals, meaning if you have high blood pressure for example, cut back on the salt and increase your beet juice intake. I correlate Potato and leek soup with the root chakra, the energy center associated with grounding, stability, and basic survival needs. Just as the root chakra seeks to anchor us to the present moment and provide a sense of security, potato and leek soup, made with earthy root vegetables, offers nourishment and comfort. As a grounding food, potato and leek soup helps to root us in the physical world while providing essential nutrients to support overall well-being. In essence, potato and leek soup serves as a symbolic and nourishing representation of the root chakra's energy, promoting balance and holistic wellness.
